The automatic film applicator provides a reliable basis for applying coating films to test plates (max. size 515 x 300 mm / 20.28 x 11.81 in), plates or foils in a uniform and repeatable manner to eliminate variations caused by human factors.
Variations in speed, pressure and direction of application cause irregularities. Other factors that can affect the result are shear rate and weight of the applicator. With the automatic film applicator, these variable factors are stabilized. The film thickness is uniform over the entire surface. The samples created with the automatic film applicator are reproducible. It is possible to produce a large number of identical laboratory precision applications in a short period of time.
The quality of the applied film is important for investigating the appearance properties of the sample. For preparing samples for abrasion resistance, hiding power and gloss testing, an automatic film applicator is indispensable. Several types of applicators, such as Bird, Baker and wire, are available for glass, paper or metal substrates or foils. When applying foil with an automatic applicator, any variations caused by e.g. rheological properties, application speed and pressure can be minimized.
All models can be used in combination with standard block foil applicators, such as Bird/Baker models, or spiral foil applicators (wire wound type), depending on the selected configuration.
Each ‘Standard’ automatic foil applicator is equipped with the Triple I ® navigation tool. Triple I stands for Intelligent Illumination Interface. This unique navigation tool guides the operator through the interface of the TQC Sheen laboratory devices. At each step of the operating menu, the interface detects which keys are active and indicates them with an illuminated red center. This results in a very intuitive operating system that is enhanced by information on the device display.
The Standard automatic foil applicator with perforated heated vacuum bed has a built-in heating pad that allows the table temperature to be raised up to +100°C above ambient temperature. The built-in powerful heater guarantees even temperature distribution across the entire vacuum plate.
